For some three years now the Wednesday Walkers have been exploring the footpaths of Beachamwell (and occasionally venturing into neighbouring parishes too). On the first Wednesday of every month a walk sets out from the Village Green at 10am. Everyone is welcome; just turn up and tag along. The pace is relaxed and the walks are usually not too long: 3 or 4 miles and lasting maybe an hour and half or so.
The instigator and leader of the Wednesday Walks is Sue Pennell. Her knowledge of the local paths and in particular her interest in wildlife always adds to the pleasure of each walk as usually there is some bird, insect or wild plant to be spotted and identified.
An important aspect of organising the walks is the ‘recce’, carried out a few days beforehand to make sure that the route is walkable and to check the length and timing. While previewing this month’s walk earlier today, Sue spotted this grass snake on Green Drove. No guarantee that it will still be there next Wednesday but you never know!
The next Wednesday Walk is on 4 November 2015, meet at 10am on Beachamwell Village Green. Dogs on lead please. The occasional stiles, rough ground or livestock are encountered at your own risk. Information: Tel 01366 328452
